Mentoring Program

For several years, PMI-NAC ran a highly successful structured mentoring program, pairing experienced Project Managers with individuals new to the project management field, and/or those with a special interest in furthering their knowledge of project management. After a long hiatus, we are working hard to re-establish this valued service.

In order to develop a truly sustainable program that will best meet the needs of our current a future members, it is our belief that we must consult members directly, and provide those who are most interested with the opportunity to actively shape the service they will ultimately both provide and receive. In that spirit, all chapter members were invited to take part in two roundtable discussions, hosted at two different dinner meetings during the 2010-2011 year. As a result of these discussions, the decision was made to launch a 6-month pilot of the Project Managers' Community of Practice (PM-CoP).

The pilot project will run from September 2011 to March 2012, during which the established group will meet once each month for six months to learn from each other about various aspects of project management.

The PM-CoP objectives are:To offer relevant and desired opportunities to PMI-NAC members to grow as professional project managers and leaders
To advance peer-based learning in the area of project management
To adapt the program as needs emerge and evolve

The benefits will include:Experienced project managers (PMs) will advance the profession by sharing their background and experience with participating PMs.
Less experienced PMs will benefit by recognizing the value of their particular experience and gleaning strategies and tips from other PMs.
Participation in the PM-CoP is eligible for PDUs.
The opportunity to be a committed member of a community of project managers who teach and learn through meaningful dialogue.

While participation in the pilot phase is limited to the established group, the results of this pilot will ultimately guide the development of a service that will be accessible to all chapter members who are interested in taking part.

To learn more, ask questions, or express any concerns, please contact PMI-NAC's Mentoring Director, Marguerite LeBlanc, at mentoring@pminac.com, or VP Membership, Micaela Brown, at membership@pminac.com
